Lola M. Parker Award (Outstanding Woman of the Year). The nominees are chosen for their outstanding work in business and their contributions to the community. The Outstanding Woman of the Year, a national award, is selected biennially at the National Convention from winners selected at each of the five Regional Conferences. Each local chapter can submit one nominee for Outstanding Woman of the Year to its regional conference. Mahala S. Evans (Outstanding Soror of the Year). This award is given to recognize those sorors who have contributed most to the Sorority, during the past two years, including participation in local, regional and national programs and projects, and community activities. The Outstanding Woman of the Year is chosen at the National Convention from the five Regional Conference Sorors of the Year.. Career Exploration. This project encourages local chapters and regional directors to participate in the work of projecting career education among our youth, sorors, and auxiliaries. Tutorial Project. The tutoring project is designed to assist the educational system in remediating youth’s academic weaknesses, tapping their strengths, and unshackling their potentials toward the attainment of “excellence without compromise.” Teen Pregnancy Initiative. This program helps local communities learn more about teenage pregnancy and develop effective action agendas for preventing children from having children. Future Iota Leaders (FIL). FIL provide intellectual and cultural experiences for males and females, ages 9-20 (second year of college). Youth should be interested in pursuing training in areas of business, entrepreneurship, community service, and must support the programs of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. Iota’s Mothers Assistance Program (IMAP). IMAP is an outreach service to meet the needs of teens (ages 11-19) and disadvantaged mothers (ages 20-40) which includes activities such as tutoring, training programs, internships, resources and referrals for health and family life, employment, financial assistance and scholarships. Africare. Africare is a special women’s empowerment program that provides global leadership and assistance in raising the economic and social status of black women in the Republic of South Africa. |
