Greetings Iota family and visitors,
I welcome you to the website of Alpha Xi Chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. Whether this is your first or hundredth visit, I hope you find this site informative enough to ensure many future visits. Feel free to contact us for additional information as shown on our homepage.
Alpha Xi Chapter was founded in 1939 in Knoxville. We are assisted by two auxiliary groups, the Pelatis Auxiliary and the Men of Iota. Both groups support the aims and ideals of Iota. The Pelatis are women who have a desire to support Iota with a potential for being an Iota member. The Men of Iota are our spouses, friends and family members who desire to formally support Iota.
The Iota family works to ensure that the benefits of Iota abound in our Knoxville communities. We strive to fulfill Iota’s goals and objectives by presenting programs and projects that challenge our youth and our young mothers to develop to their full potential. The FIL (Future Iota Leaders) and IMAP (Iota’s Mothers Assistance Program) are our outreach programs for youth and young mothers. Our goal is to support them as they go through this critical phase of life. We are enthusiastic in being part of the village that nurtures our youth into becoming adults that will in turn reach back for the next child.
We support activities that enrich our communities such as the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday observances, KUUMBA Festival, and Project GRAD. We offer scholarships yearly to high school students as they embark on their journey to attain a college degree.
Our signature program, the Bronze Awards Brunch is used as the support base for our programs and projects. At the brunch we recognize outstanding individuals who have excelled in their professional careers and who have made exemplary contributions to their communities. We culminate our program with the awarding of the Bronze Woman and Bronze Man of the Year.
